Down the line rock to ukulele island songs and harmonica lap slide blues… Old Man Friday is pleased to announce the release of their new album Down The Line.
We have continued to explore surf music new and old, but searched the edges as well – the desert and old time spaghetti westerns, stripped back folk, and dabbled in bringing the funk. The do it yourself journey has been incredibly fulfilling, exploring new ways to play, produce and create art and embrace the joy of learning. But that Friday morning surf is Never to far from our minds, see you in the line up.
Our debut ep Old Man Friday started when Blair put an instrumental riff as a soundtrack to some local surf footage. This inspired us to jam each week on different ideas, and slowly but surely we wrote and recorded all songs in the Old Man Friday garage drawing on various levels of skill to play a variety of instruments such as guitars, bass, harmonicas, drums and lap slide, learning with each session, and enjoying the changes to songs as we went.
This first collection of songs is heavily influenced by images of the Gold Coast, Australia, where we live, but also of the seascapes of West oz and the southern tip on NZ, where our roots are. We hope you can see the same pictures we do.
